Guess what the three Democrats blocking lower medication prices have in common?
David Sirota and Andrew Perez
Mon, September 20, 2021, 6:25 AM

The three conservative Democratic lawmakers threatening to kill their party’s drug pricing legislation have raked in roughly $1.6m of campaign cash from donors in the pharmaceutical and health products industries. One of the lawmakers is the House’s single largest recipient of pharmaceutical industry campaign cash this election cycle, and another lawmaker’s immediate past chief of staff is now lobbying for drugmakers.

The threat from Democratic Representatives Kurt Schrader (Oregon), Scott Peters (California) and Kathleen Rice (New York) comes just as the pharmaceutical industry’s top lobbying group announced a seven-figure ad campaign to vilify the Democratic legislation, which aims to lower the cost of medicines for Americans now facing the world’s highest prescription drug prices.

Schrader and Peters are among the two biggest recent Democratic recipients of pharmaceutical industry donations

At issue is House Democrats’ initiative to let Medicare use its bulk purchasing power to negotiate lower prescription drug prices.

Well, thank you, Mr. Beaver. 🤦‍‍♂️

Kate Brown Abolishes All Reading, Writing, And Math Proficiency Requirements In Oregon - https://ugetube.com/watch/...

https://nationalvanguard.o... Oregon: Governor Removes All Reading, Writing, Math Requirements to “Help Students of Color Kate Brown OPENLY BISEXUAL Oregon Governor Kate Brown quietly signed a bill last month that removed the requirement for graduating high school children in the state to be proficient in reading, writing, and math, in an effort to aid “students of color.”

Brown signed Senate Bill 744 on July 14, but did not issue a press release or hold a ceremony to mark the occasion, instead opting to pass the bill into law as quietly as possible, according to the Oregonian. The bill also wasn’t entered into a legislative database until two weeks after its signing – an abnormality, as bills are typically entered on the same day.

Though Brown was quiet about the bill, the governor’s deputy communications director, Charles Boyle, told the Oregonian that suspending the reading, writing, and math proficiency requirements would benefit “students of color” while the state comes up with a new set of “equitable” graduation standards.

Until then, the suspension will apparently help those who are “Black, Latino, Latina, Latinx, Indigenous, Asian, Pacific Islander, [or] Tribal.”

Boyle said that “leaders from those communities have advocated time and again for equitable graduation standards, along with expanded learning opportunities and supports.” However, lawmakers reportedly have not passed any “actual concrete support” this year to “help” those groups.

Any new graduation requirements that do pass will reportedly not take effect until 2027, meaning five years of classes could graduate without needing to demonstrate proficiency in three basic areas.

Pelosi Faces Revolt From Moderates That Risks Budget Plan
Emily Wilkins and Billy House 14 hrs ago

(Bloomberg) -- Nine moderate House Democrats are threatening to withhold support from a $3.5 trillion budget blueprint until a bipartisan infrastructure package is signed into law, threatening to unravel plans for moving President Joe Biden’s agenda through Congress.

“It’s time to get shovels in the ground and people to work,” the Democrats wrote in a letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi dated Thursday. “We will not consider voting for a budget resolution until the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act passes the House and is signed into law.”

The moderates’ stance risks undermining Pelosi’s strategy, which would bring the budget resolution to a vote in the House the week of Aug. 23. Pelosi’s slim margin of control means she can only afford to lose three members of her caucus in a vote on the budget measure, which passed the Senate on a party-line vote this week and isn’t expected to garner any Republican support in the House.

Representatives Josh Gottheimer of New Jersey, Carolyn Bourdeaux of Georgia, Filemon Vela of Texas, Jared Golden of Maine, Henry Cuellar of Texas, Vicente Gonzalez of Texas, Ed Case of Hawaii, Jim Costa of California and Kurt Schrader of Oregon signed the letter, first reported by Punchbowl News.

Last week—in response to reports of increasing Delta variant cases—small business owner-initiated COVID precautions began popping up across the city’s nightlife scene.

Inspired by similar guilds in San Francisco and Seattle, several Portland bars debuted a coalition to ask their patrons for proof of vaccination at the door.

Informally, they called the group the “Vaxx Coalition.” But they didn’t really mean to adopt a catchy name, since the whole point of banding together was to gain
